The responsible authorities of the railway department have not submitted reports yet for the recent train derailments near Maradana station, Sri Lanka Railway Station Masters’ Union (SLRSMU) President Sumedha Somaratne said.

While speaking to the Daily Mirror he said that there were three derailments near the Maradana station, one yesterday and the other two trains were derailed on Tuesday, he said.
“The Maradana-Panadura, Kandy-Matara trains were derailed at Maradana yesterday, and the Fort-KKS train was derailed at the same spot yesterday,” he said.

Derailments are though rare, but common. After derailments, the trains should be made to get back on track after necessary repairs that include the damaged track. Subsequently a report on the derailment should be submitted, mentioning the cause.

However, after the recent derailments, the trains were back on track, but no reports explaining the derailments have been submitted as yet, he said expressing disappointment.
