Wildlife conservators in Anuradhapura recovered the carcasses of three wild elephants including a tusker that had been electrocuted in a private land in Pudukkulama village in Mihintale.

Investigations revealed that the three jumbos that entered the cultivated land had trampled on a live wire laid by a land owner to protect the land from wild animals.

Anuradhapura zone wildlife conservators said a herd of wild elephants had been frequenting the area from the previous evening and that the three jumbos in the herd had been electrocuted when they entered the cultivated land.

They said a villager grazing the cattle had noticed the dead wild elephants and informed the Mihintale Police.
Anuradhapura Zone Asst. Wildlife Conservator W.M.Chandraratne said legal action would be taken against the land owner.
