The time has come to embrace social democracy, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa told Parliament yesterday.
Mr. Premadasa who was speaking during the last day of the second reading on the budget debate said the ultimate goal of Sri Lanka should be to ensure social welfare, social security and social development.
“We need state intervention as well in economic development but that should not affect the private sector entrepreneurs,” he said.
He said there should be a combined effort to achieve all these objectives. “A single person cannot push the economy towards growth. Therefore a combined effort is a must.
Also Mr. Premadasa said printing money should be stopped forthwith. “What we need is not money printing but earning money. We should also look at inflation and determine it, ” he therefore said.
