The newly established ‘Constitutional Council (CC)’ would meet tomorrow to decide on the re-establishment of the independent commissions and key appointments in the government and the judiciary, Secretary-General of Parliament Dhammika Dasanayake told Daily Mirror yesterday.
The CC has been established in keeping with the recently enacted 21st Amendment to the Constitution. It will make appointments to the Elections Commission, the Public Services Commission, the Police Commission, the Delimitation Commission, and the National Procurement Commission.
Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena is the head of the CC. Besides, Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa are also members of it by virtue of their office.
