The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court yesterday issued an order directing  immigration authorities to temporarily suspend the travel ban imposed against former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga.

Udayanga Weeratunga through his lawyer made an application to temporarily suspend the travel ban. The Court was informed that Udayanga Weeratunga was instrumental in bringing Russian tourists to Sri Lanka.
The court had imposed the travel ban against Udayanga Weeratunga over the alleged MiG Aircraft deal. The value of the alleged deal was estimated at US$14 million. This is in connection with the financial fraud that is alleged to have taken place during the procurement of seven MiG-27 ground attack aircraft for the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF).
