The Colombo Fort Magistrate yesterday imposed a travel ban on former Kurunegala MP Johnston Fernando preventing him from leaving the country.

The travel ban has been imposed due to his continuous failure to appear before the Fort Magistrate.

After the Presidential election, the CID on a tip off has found an abandoned BMW with a garage number plate at the Colombo Hilton car park.  Upon investigation, the CID has questioned one Taxi Abey who is said to have left the vehicle in the Hilton car park.

During questioning, Taxi Abey has told the CID that it belongs to the former MP.  According to Sri Lanka Customs, no such vehicle, had been imported to Sri Lanka. It is believed this vehicle had been brought into the country in a container fraudulently.

It was later revealed that the garage number plate had been issued to a vehicle which had been exported to the UK by a local agent.
ASP Wijekoon of the CID is conducting further investigations.
