The Kandy Division Criminal Investigation Bureau has confiscated a BMW and a Prado jeep, valued at approximately Rs. 60 million, from the residence of former Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena’s son-in-law in Aniwatta, Kandy. The seizure took place following information received by the Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of the Kandy Division. Police said that no one in the house was able to make a legal claim regarding these vehicles and hence they were seized accordingly. It was revealed that the former Minister’s son-in-law, who also runs a car sale in the Mahaiyawa area, reportedly held a high position in the Ports Authority during the tenure of former Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena.

Police suspect that these vehicles were illegally released from the port and that they will be presented to the Government Analyst for further investigations.
