Asserting that the resolution to be moved at the UNHRC is an infringement of the sovereignty of Sri Lanka, Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said yesterday that it was an unfriendly act by the United Kingdom to lead a core-group sponsoring it.

Making his remarks on the final draft of the resolution made available to Sri Lanka, the Minister told Daily Mirror that the content was intrusive and in violation of the sovereignty of the country. He said it amounts to an unfriendly act by the UK on Sri Lanka as a member of the Commonwealth.

The core group has drafted the resolution calling for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to increase monitoring and reporting on the human rights situation in Sri Lanka. Also, the resolution calls for reporting on progress related to reconciliation and accountability process in Sri Lanka.   The review of the Prevention of Terrorism Act and the conduct of provincial council elections are also called for in the resolution.
