The government decided to use US $ 200 million out of the US $ 1 billion Indian credit line to import essential medicines from India, a Minister said yesterday.
State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Prof. Channa Jayasumana said both the state and private sector could use this facility to purchase drugs from India.
“We have called for applications from the registered suppliers now,” the Minister said. Sri Lanka annually spends around US $ 600 million for the import of medicines for the state sector.
