A group of Ukrainians on Saturday evening (26) staged a protest in Galle condemning the Russian invasion of their country. They lit lamps in memory of their fellow citizens killed in the military assault.
The Ukrainian tourists staying in Galle, Hikkaduwa, Bentota, Unawatuna, Mirissa, and Weligama areas participated. They said there was much woe and sorrow in Ukrain and that thousands of their people were being killed in military operations. They pointed out that the prevailing situation prevented them from returning to their country.
Meanwhile, a Russian couple who arrived at the scene expressed their sympathies and apologized on behalf of their country.
