A few days after public criticisms and soon after the investigations launched into the mispronouncing of some words of the national anthem at the opening ceremony of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023, singer Umara Sinhawansa extended her sincere apology to anyone who had been affected or offended by the singing.

In a Facebook post, the singer said that she too had noticed a problem with the way some words were pronounced while singing the national anthem.

She also said that she never intended to distort the words of the national anthem or provide any kind of misinterpretation, and that she does understand the sentiments of her people.
“At the outset, as a Sri Lankan, I have always carried the Sri Lankan flag with great pride, have always strived to uplift the image of my country, and have contributed to the best of my ability in numerous ways, including singing. I love my Motherland,” she said in her post.

However, she had been requested to appear before the investigation team of the Public Administration Ministry by tomorrow.
