Popular writer Upul Santha Sannasgala and author Srinath Chathuranga were yesterday released on bail by Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly inciting religious hatred with the publication of a book titled “Budunge Rasthiyaduwa”.

The two suspects were ordered to be released on two sureties of Rs.200,000 each by Colombo Chief Magistrate Nandana Amarasinghe.

The Organised Crimes Prevention Division had initiated an investigation into a complaint lodged by Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapksha alleging that the two suspects had been involved in propagating religious hatred through this publication. The book was written by Shrinath Chathuranga and published through Sannasgala’s Sanhinda institution.   The Court had issued summons directing the two suspects to be present in court for authoring, printing and distributing the book, violating section 191A of the Penal Code.
