The vaccination roll out commenced in the Kurunegala District yesterday and is to be extended to more districts such as Galle and Matara from today (27), Army Chief said.
Commander General Shavendra Silva said the people living in respective districts will be vaccinated with the 500, 000 doses of Sinopharm vaccines that arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday. “The vaccination drive is carried out as per the recommendations made by the Epidemiology Unit” he said.
The Commander also said the decision had been taken on the directives of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The vaccination drive in Sri Lanka was mainly carried out in the Western Province and it has now been extended to three more districts.
Attempts made by Daily Mirror to contact Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera for comments regarding the new vaccination programme failed.
