The absence of a lot release certificate for the latest stock of Sputnik V vaccines received is due to a holiday in Russia. This has resulted in a delay of administering the vaccines, Daily Mirror learns.
Sri Lanka received 65,000 doses of Sputnik V vaccines recently. However, the lot release certification, the document that certifies the quality of the product delivered, has not arrived due to a holiday in Russia. The certificate has to be sent by the manufacturer to be perused by the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) in Sri Lanka. State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Prof. Channa Jayasumana told Daily Mirror that there is a delay in fulfilling the lot requirements due to a holiday associated with Russia Day. “Once the holiday is over, the Russian authorities will send us the certificate. Once we get it, we intend rolling out the vaccine process in Kandy, “he said. It is a holiday in Russia today. Sputnik V has two formulas to be administered as first and second doses. Of the latest consignment sent to Sri Lanka, 15,000 are for second doses.
