“I believe and greatly respect you are a person who continuously promote ethnic and religious harmony and peace within Sri Lankan society. At the same time I believe you are intellectually strong to analyse this pathetic situation which will lead to gradual disappearances of Sufi Muslims, their culture and rituals in Sri Lanka.,” State Minister Jayasumana said in his letter.
“Sri Lankan Sufi Muslims especially those who live in Kattankudy have complained with the police and other institutions on several incidents that have taken place. However, tragically all these complaints have been ignored, shrugged off saying it is an internal issue among the Muslim community. No reasonable law-abiding citizen will agree with the proposition that this is an internal issue among the Muslim groups. It is a very serious and harmful matter which challenges the existence of law and order in Sri Lanka,” he added.
The State Minister also connected this situation with the killing of Priyantha Kumara Diyawardene.
Meanwhile, All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama rejected the allegations made by State Minister Jayasumana and questioned as to why the former is raising a long settled issue and reminding and connecting it with the unfortunate incident which took place in Sialkot Pakistan. They invited the Professor for a cordial discussion with regard to these matters.
