Gatherings such as weddings and parties have been the super spreader events of Covid-19 in Sri Lanka, a medical expert said .  

Consultant, Community Medicines Dr. Priyanga Ranasinghe told Daily Mirror the corona disease had mostly originated from gatherings in Sri Lanka, according to findings by the health authorities.  
It has mostly been the case in other parts of the world as well.  
She said weddings contributed a lot to the spread in Sri Lanka.  

“At weddings, people remove face masks and partake in meals while chatting to each other. They consume liquor together. This is the main cause for the spread at wedding functions,” she said.  
Commenting on the disease spread within office environments, she said dining together had been the reason for contracting of the virus from each other.  

Emphasising on the importance of health practices, she said one could prevent contamination with the virus even from a corona patient living in the same household with him, by sticking to health guidelines.
