Wet weather to continue: Met. Dept.

Fairly heavy falls of about 75 mm are forecast at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and in Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya Districts during the coming days, the Department of Meteorology said yesterday. 

Showers are expected in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-Western provinces and in Galle and Matara Districts as well. 


Wind speed is expected to increase up to 30-40Kmph at times over the island and especially wind speed can increase up to 50Kmph at times in Western slope of the Central hills, Northern, North-Central and North-Western provinces and in Trincomalee and Hambantota Districts. 


Heavy rains were reported in several parts of the country yesterday with Muruthalawa in Kandy District recording a fall of 99 mm, Moratota in Kegalle 90 mm, Kadugannawa 90.25 mm, Katugastota 89 mm, Dansalwatta in Gampaha 62 mm and Dikoya in Nuwara Eliya 50.5 mm. 


Water levels of the main rivers were receding according to the Disaster Management Centre.
