It is important to decide as to what to do once the no confidence motion against the government is passed in Parliament, former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said yesterday.
“We are not against the no confidence motion that has been brought against the government but one must also decide as to what will happen after it and who would run the government,” Wickremesinghe said. “We will support the motion that is to be brought by the TNA as it will be only a statement which says Parliament has lost its faith in the President,” he added. Asked whether it should be the President or the Prime Minister to resign, he said that this issue should be decided by the President and the Prime Minister themselves. “One cannot see an end to the political crisis unless the Prime Minister and the President resolve this issue and one of them resigns from the post,” he said. “It is essential to resolve both the economic and political crisis which the country is faced with today,” he also said.
