A young couple camping near the Upper Diyaluma falls in Koslanda had been hit by a wild elephant, and the young woman died at the scene. The young man who had received serious injuries was admitted to hospital in a critical condition.
Koslanda Police said the deceased G. Tharushi (23) and her lover from Kekunadura in Matara had been on a visit to Upper Diyaluma falls and camping at the site.
Police said it was with great difficulty that the jumbo was driven away into the jungle with the help of the villagers before the body could be removed from the scene. Koslanda Police are conducting further investigations.
