The carcass of a tusker had been recovered by the wildlife conservators from a farm on the banks of Karagahawewa tank in Thalawa last morning.
The officials said the jumbo was about 12 years of age and seven feet tall and that it had been electrocuted to death. Police said they suspect the owner of the farms of laying live wires around the farm. However he had fled from the area after the police initiated investigations.
Thalawa Police are conducting further investigations.
