Wildlife and Forestry Minister C. B. Ratnayake yesterday said he is willing to resign from his ministry anytime if the officers attached to his ministry continue to sabotage his work.
Minister Ratnayake who was speaking during the committee stage debate on the budget in Parliament said some officers attached to the ministry even created rifts between the minister in charge of wildlife in the previous government Sarath Fonseka and State Minister Palitha Thevarapperuma. “Both these Ministers had to go home while the officers attached to the ministry are still functioning,” he said.

“Some may fault us for revealing the shortcomings in the Wildlife Department but we have to come out with them,” he added.

No census has been conducted on animals in the forest by the Department of Wildlife while no details are given on animals in the official wildlife. The only service carried out by the Wildlife Department Website is helping people to make bookings for bungalows in national parks,” he said.
