Wildlife and Forest Conservation Minister C.B. Rathnayake denied the statement made by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa regarding the attempt to take away 12,000 acres from the Yala National Park.
While commenting on that, the Minister told the Daily Mirror that, no such program was planned to be implemented by the government.
“As the responsible Minister for my Ministry, I will not let such activity happen in the Yala National Park. A proposal should be presented if such a program is to be implemented. So far, no such proposal has been received, the Minister said.
Rumours are spreading in this regard, but as the minister, I completely reject the statement made by the Opposition leader and would never let anyone destroy any part of the Yala forest reserve, “Minister Rathnayake added. In a tweet yesterday, the opposition leader claimed that, according to information from reliable sources, it was also confirmed that illegal roadways were to be constructed through the National Park up to Akasa Chaitya.
