While highlighting the less enthusiasm shown by youngsters in getting jabbed, Chief Epidemiologist Dr Samitha Ginige said the young population exceptionally contribute to virus transmission as they frequently move about in society.
He told media yesterday that it is a social responsibility of young population from 20 to 30 to receive the COVID vaccine.
“Even though 50 percent of total young population from 20 to 30 has received their vaccines out of 3.3 million population, we are yet to see much interest from them,” he underscored.
“When considering the total number of infections, 90 percent is from the age group from 20 to 60. In addition, 96 deaths have also been reported from age group from 20 to 30,” he pointed out.
