Young woman saved from drowning in Upper Kotmale reservoir

A young woman, who fell into the Upper Kotmale reservoir in Talawakelle, was saved by the police with the help of the residents of the area.


Police said the area of the reservoir near the Talawakelle Cooperative office where she fell was very deep and that it was with great difficulty that she could be saved. The public who noticed the young woman falling into the reservoir had taken prompt rescue action until the police arrived. Several of them had jumped into the water and helped her, while others lifted them with ropes.

The 24-year-old woman from Agarapathana area told police that she was obsessed with difficulties for want of employment and that she felt dizzy when walking along the bank of the reservoir.


She was admitted to Lindula Divisional Hospital and transferred to Nuwara- Eliya General Hospital.


Chief Medical Officer of Lindula Hospital Dr. Asela Suranjith said she had not sustained any external injuries and that she would be referred to a psychiatrist at Nuwara Eliya General Hospital.


Talawakelle Police are conducting further investigations.
