The National Movement for Consumer Rights Protection (NMCRP) today requested the Health Director General to issue a statement whether the coconut oil currently in the market contain carcinogen aflatoxins or any other toxin.
NMCRP President Ranjith Withanage said there is a rumour spreading in society that coconut oil currently being sold in the market contains carcinogenic constituents.
According to the Food Act No. 26 of 1980, it clearly mentioned that it is the responsibility of the Health Director General to provide non-toxic food to consumers, Withanage said.
