MPs will not be able to appoint their family members as their personal staff under the new government, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya said over the week end.

Speaking during a rally organised by the National Peoples Power (NPP) Women’s wing in Gampaha. Ms. Amarasuriya said facilities given to MPs will be limited under the new government.

“Facilities such as official residences and other facilities will be limited. MPs will not be able to appoint their family members as personal staff any longer. Perhaps the most difficult thing to bear up will be the end of corruption. The focus will only be on development projects for the country’s future rather than the well being of ministers and MPs,” she said.
“ We will work according to a national policy,” she added.
