Police officers who were at Polduwa junction near the parliamentary complex should not have assaulted the army officers who entered the area on motorcycles on Tuesday, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka told Parliament yesterday.
“ I would have even opposed the Army officers if they assaulted police officers,” Field Marshal Fonseka said.
“ Similarly I would like to say that Army men should not have come on motorbikes without number plates. I don’t know whether these officers were sent by someone but anyway their arrival on the scene cannot be justified,” he added.
“ Army officers went into the LTTE-held areas during the war and they were attacked by the terrorist at that time,” he also said.
