Weeratunga to lead IPM Sri Lanka delegation to India

IPM Sri Lanka will be sending a 13-member delegation of human resources professionals including a resource person to India’s 34th NIPM Annual National HR Conference on the theme ‘Winnovate HR for Business and People Aspirations – Pause, Ponder, Predict and Prepare’ to be held from October 8 to 10, 2015, at the Le Meridien Hotel-Coimbatore, India. The SL delegation will be led by experienced HR professional and Fellow Member of IPM and Ceylon Fisheries Corporation Managing Director G. Weeratunga.
With its head office located in Kolkata, NIPM is India’s only body for professional managers engaged in the profession of human resources development. NIPM has a total membership of over 11,000 in 49 chapters spread throughout the country.
The Sri Lankan delegation has been invited to participate in this event under the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2003 between IPM Sri Lanka and NIPM India and will be part of the exchange programme agreed between the two national human resources management bodies in Sri Lanka and India.
In addition to attending and participating in the NIPM Conference, the Sri Lankan delegation will engage in factory visits, field visits and will participate in knowledge-sharing sessions with prestigious and well-known Indian business personalities and companies. As part of the same exchange programme, a 15-member delegation from NIPM-India was hosted at Sri Lanka’s National HR Conference 2015 held in June.
“We are happy to be sending a high-profile 13-member delegation from Sri Lanka led by G. Weearatunga, who is a Fellow member of IPM. He has also been instrumental in developing NIPM and IPM relationships way back in 2003 under the presidency of Janaka Kumarasinghe,” said IPM Sri Lanka President Rohitha Amarapala.
“Participation in exchange programmes of this nature help us to obtain knowledge, information and insights on best practices, trends and latest developments in the HR sphere. This knowledge will contribute to our goal of uplifting human capital in Sri Lanka to support the national economic and industrial growth objectives,” he added.
The 34th NIPM Conference will be addressed by Swami Sukhabodhananda - the Corporate Guru of India - as well as some renowned Indian and foreign speakers. Chairman of the National HR Conference 2015 - Ajantha Dharmasiri, Professor of Management of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and past Council Member of IPM Sri Lanka - too will address the NIPM conference.
IPM Sri Lanka keeps pace with the new trends and concepts in HR by engaging continuously with the business community to share experiences, thoughts and insights in order to enrich and enhance the HR profession. It actively encourages and promotes members’ participation at international conferences and forums to provide exposure build networks and conduct research into areas of interest to the HR profession in Sri Lanka.
