We have already discussed the main lines and the secondary lines in the hand in some detail. There are signs in the hand which are no less important than the lines.

Signs in hand produce results mainly in three ways.  Some signs add strength or weaken the effect of a Mount or would produce an entirely different effect because of its presence on the Mount in question.

There are certain signs that strengthen or weaken the main lines or give the line an entirely new effect during their presence.

There are certain other signs which signify results independent of a particular Mount or a Line.

There are eight main signs commonly found in hands which are considered very significant, of which we discussed the first two signs, the Spot or Dot and the Circle fully in the previous article. The significations of the other signs are as follows:

The Square or the Rectangle:  The Square is usually called the mark of preservation.  It signifies escape from danger at the particular moment indicated by its position. If a Square appears on the Line of Life the subject has or is to escape from death, depending on where the sign occurs.

The Square signifies other effects as well. For example, if it appears on the Mount of Jupiter, the subject becomes a successful administrator.  If there is sign of a Square on the Mount of Saturn, the subject surprisingly escapes death repeatedly.Another exception to the general rule is that a Square in the upperpart of the Mount of Venus near the Life line indicates detention or incarceration.

The Triangle:  This sign can be seen as an independent one as well as one formed by the crossing of the main lines. A Triangle formed by the crossing of main lines or secondary lines is not as strong as a Triangle seen as an independent single sign.  The size of the triangle is directly related to good results and good fortune.  The bigger the triangle the greater the good luck. A Triangle located in the centre of the palm signifies that the subject is very fortunate, calm, cordial and benevolent. Such a person is highly respected in the society. A faultless triangle on the Mount of Mars indicates that the subject is a great warrior who would shine in the battlefield for his valour and skills.  A Triangle on the Mount of Jupiter means that the subject stands out as clever politician who excels in diplomatic finesse.

An Island:  Very often this sign begins as a split line and after running some distance it turns back and rejoins the original line thus forming an Island. All renowned palmists agree that this sign is a defect that lessens the good effect of the line or the Mount where it is found.  An Island on the Mount of Jupiter signifies the ruination of a great career due to the irrational actions of a relative or a close friend.  An Island on the Mount of Moon indicates that the subject is a cruel tyrant.  If there is an Island on the Life line, the subject is sexually impotent.
