Being tardy, a common trait amongst us, is an attribute that this country can easily do without. Punctuality is an essential trait. If each and every citizen in the country is punctual, life will be easier all around. Failing to be on time is the height of bad manners and displays a lack of respect for another. Depending on the context it can also make a person seem unprofessional. Tardiness also shows a lack of respect for your colleagues who have given up their time. By making sure you arrive for work on time or, even better, a few minutes early will ensure that your colleagues will respect you for it. However, punctuality does not mean being on time in your professional life but also applies when it comes to your social life. At auspicious occasions or functions, people can be seen trailing in long past the appointed time. This is a no, no. Barging in late to meetings or social functions, crawling into work at random hours, habitual tardiness creates a bad impression. It simply implies that you do not respect another’s time.
An example is a Panel of Interviewers turning up long after the appointed hour. Doctors are another, where patients have to spend long hours in the waiting room until they appear. Social functions are another nightmare when the guests decide to breeze in at the time they desire, disrupting the host’s immaculately planned arrangements. It is very frustrating and displays the lack of good manners and sometimes the arrogance of the guests; to think that they can hold up a function and ruin it not only for the host but for all the other guests.
This trait of tardiness is in every field and is frustrating. People who are constantly behaving this way should consciously attempt to get their act together, put aside their arrogance, disrespect to others, and begin to respect them by turning up at the set time. Punctuality is a key to success for everyone.
