Hoping for the Perfect Year

It was ringing out the old and bringing in the New Year when Prithi Fernando hosted her annual Christmas bash. The theme, glitter, made the entire house cheerful. The ladies sported outfits in full bling. Prithi stole the show as usual and looked her best in a sensational sequined dress. The party was in full tempo with the guests swinging to the rhythms of the music and enjoying the abundance of food and beverage. Prithi knows how to have a super time and entertain in great style. She also believes that in life one has to also help the needy equally, as much as possible, and does this with no huge fanfare. The party was a wonderful ending to the quite rocky year.

The past three years were quite depressing with people having to cope with many issues.  This year was no better with the cost of living shooting up and everybody having lifestyles to live within their means. Sri Lankans are resilient and have adjusted it seems, even though a huge percentage are having a difficult time to make ends meet.

Daily, we hear or read of murders taking place all over the country, reckless accidents all over the roads, and many other sad stories in all fields. Financial frauds seem to have taken the lead this year with plenty uncovered.  Begging seems to have become a national pastime and the robberies we hear of are quite frightening.
Nevertheless, the end of year in the city has been and is in full swing and people are having a splendid time.  This is wonderful news to all the eating houses, big or small, that are packed with peoples’ weddings and other receptions.  The electricity crisis seems to be a myth when you see the decorations with lights flashing galore all over the city.  Humans adjust and live accordingly is what it is.

Hopefully looking forward to a fabulous 2023.  Happy New year to all of you!
