‘yan’, a Recital by Dmitri Gunatilake is a heartfelt tribute to Sinhala classics through song and music, guaranteed to transport you to the glory of Sinhalese music from yesteryear. Join them and bask your souls in feel good, classical tunes, on the 15th of October at 7.15pm at the Women’s International Club (Garden).

Dmitri Gunathilake is an award-winning singer and dramatist, with a musical career of nearly 20 years. A woman of many talents, she is also an Attorney-at-Law, a Vocal Coach, and a beloved teacher. Hailing from Bishop’s College, Colombo, Dmitri’s prowess in musical theatre has cast her in leading roles in productions such as ‘The Sound of Music’, ‘Evita’, and ‘Phantom of the Opera’. Moreover, her passion and love for music has seen four successive, full-house shows of her own come to fruition. This is thus, certainly, yet another eclectic evening to look forward to.

This year’s show is a special tribute to all Dmitri beholds, a homage to her cultural roots and mother tongue, and the many Sinhala classics that inspired her to become the singer she is today. A long overdue show that was initially intended for a small, intimate audience, is now open to the public, and will be Dmitri Gunathilake’s first ever show encasing a repertoire of Sinhala music. This show invites you to pause, reminisce, and enjoy the all too familiar tunes of Milton Mallawarachchi, C.T. Fernando, Gypsies and many more. An evening under the stars, coupled with the beauty of the classics, and the nostalgic lyrics promises to be a tide of emotions, and shall speak to your heart and soul in caressing tones of hope, and undeniable joy.

Dmitri will be joined by the Vocalist, Minesh Dissanayake, and backed by her amazingly gifted friends, Mariam Wadood on piano, Charith Fernando on drums, Tiyanie Sahabandu on violin, Shalintha Rodrigo on bass and Ajith Kodikara on Sri Lankan flute.
