Many people are blessed with various forms of aptitudes but only a few are bestowed with multiple extra ordinary talents. Popular actor and singer Ajith Weerasinghe is one such personality. He has excelled as an actor, singer and successful businessman of repute. He clinched the title in the inaugural Mega Star reality show competition telecast on Swarnavahini a few years ago.

“I entered the field of arts via television commercials in the early nineties, introduced by veteran Parakrama Niriella. I have so far been part of more than 60 TVCs. Then Dayaratne Ratagedara introduced me to acting with his tele drama Dolos Mahe Api. This opened doors for me for a colourful journey as an actor. I acted in creations like Bogola Saundiris, Dekethi Muwahatha, Sitha Niwana Katha and several others including Husmak Tharamata and Sasaranya Asabada that ended recently. I also completed shooting for a web tele serial called ‘Red Light’ a few days ago. My newest tele drama ‘Sihina Genena Kumariye’ is now being telecast on Hiru TV at 9 pm every Saturday and Sunday. Film-wise, I have acted in Parapura, Yashodara, Maharaja Gemunu, President Super Star and others,” he told Daily Mirror Life Impulse.

Q: How do you findtime to act amidst your schedules as a busy businessman?

That’s a question that many people ask me. I am very good at managing my time and that’s the best answer I can give you. I don’t accept all acting offers that come my way. I am a bit choosy, taking into consideration the script and also the fee. I don’t act in a tele drama while working in another. That’s my style because my objective is to give my 100% contribution to whatever I do. I have a hotel in Nuwara Eliya called ‘Wind Castle’ and an organic Villa in Kandy. Wind Castle was solely designed by me. Organic Villa is an environmental-friendly project where I grow organic vegetables. By nature I am a nature lover and a disciplined soul too. I am punctual and also maintain a good rapport with people,” said the Kandy Vidyartha College old boy who excelled in boxing, rugger, athletics and also captained cricket.

Q: Music has also had a big impact on your life?

I had not studied music when I took part in the Mega Star contest that I eventually won. But I had a powerful ‘Raja Yoga’ that still exists. As you know it is an ‘auspicious’ yoga that brings success and a grand rise in career or business together with financial prosperity. So, reality programmes are such that even if our most prominent singer in the country takes part, there is no guarantee that he or she will win. Everything depends on how you can touch the pulse of the people together with a great deal of luck. Later I studied music and I am now satisfied about knowledge in music. I have done about 18 songs of mine which I have not released, but I hope to create few visuals and launch them in the future. My first song titled ‘Kola Kenda Beepalla’ sung, composed and written by me won an award and that’s indeed a tuneful milestone in my career.

Q: Politics?

Several fans and friends ask me why I don’t join politics. Why should I join politics? Just to make money, to wield power, hoodwink the people or to love my country? I personally feel that present-day politics will only tarnish my reputation. I can’t fake myself.  I do a lot of social service work but I never try to get publicity for such causes, because I believe in the power of this universe. The good we do will certainly come back to us.

Q: What is your biggest dream?

To lead a peaceful, happy and hassle-free life without being a hindrance to anyone.
