Paan Paan has been the go-to bakery on Staple Street, known for its artisanal bread and delectable pastries that have kept customers coming back for years. With a recent expansion, founder Aboo Yusoof is bringing a fresh twist to Colombo’s dynamic food scene.

The newly added upstairs section isn’t just about offering more space; it’s about creating a versatile environment for the community. Aboo explained that the goal was to create a place where people could do more than just enjoy a meal—they could host events, relax with friends, or even get some work done. The layout, with its cosy interiors and soft lighting, offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the streets below, making it an inviting retreat for all kinds of visitors. During our visit to the newly expanded space, we were greeted with a tempting spread of freshly baked pastries. Mini Paris-Brest, bite-sized chicken pizzas, almond tarts, and chicken bouchées were just a few of the delicious items on offer, showcasing the bakery’s signature attention to detail and flavour. 

Each item reflected why Paan Paan has built such a strong reputation for its artisanal creations. As Aboo discussed the journey leading to this expansion, 

it was clear that his vision went beyond simply increasing the size of the bakery. 

He saw potential in the unused upstairs space and wanted to create something that added real value to the community. 

The expansion was carefully planned, including efforts to work with local authorities to ensure everything was done properly. Aboo also highlighted the addition of much-needed parking, which has been a welcome improvement for customers.

The upstairs section has been designed to be a flexible space, perfect for everything from small gatherings to casual lunches. With its thoughtful design, the new area complements the bakery’s already thriving downstairs space, adding a new dimension to Paan Paan’s offerings.

One of the new features of the expansion is the customisable salad bar, which was introduced to cater to the growing demand for healthier meal options. Having identified that more customers are seeking fresh, wholesome food, the salad bar lets them pick exactly what they want and pay by weight.
