Shangri-La Colombo turned pink in October in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month, with vibrant pink décor, a special Pink Afternoon Tea and pink cocktails.

The awareness programme was held from 16th to 30th October, and a percentage of proceeds from each afternoon tea sold went towards supporting the inspiring work of Indira Cancer Trust, with whom Shangri-La Colombo partnered with for the second consecutive year. The proceeds will be utilised towards providing especially designed innerwear for breast cancer patients who have undergone mastectomy surgeries.

The main focus of the campaign was to raise awareness and educate Sri Lankan women and men on breast cancer, including the importance of early detection to save lives. In Sri Lanka, 26% of women are diagnosed with breast cancer and many fail to detect this illness early enough due to a lack of information and social stigma. However, with early detection, breast cancer tends to be one of the most curable cancers.

Additionally, the hotel will also host an awareness session led by Indira Cancer Trust to educate their female colleagues about the importance of doing self-checks and early detection to save lives.

Mr. Herve Duboscq, General Manager of Shangri-La Colombo stated, “As a leading hotel brand in Sri Lanka, we strive to do good, uplift and empower our communities which is one of our core beliefs as an organisation.

We were pleased to partner with Indira Cancer Trust for the second consecutive year in order to raise awareness on this issue and educate people on the importance of early detection.” The Pink Afternoon Tea at Sapphyr Lounge featured a fine selection of delicious Pink savouries and sweet treats, followed by pink cocktails. The 3-tiered platter included vibrant pink-hued treats; from a pink sushi roll, a dyed devilled egg, and pretty pink strawberries to a chocolate in a lipstick tube, light and fluffy scones and even a fuschia-toned hopper.

Priced at LKR 4750++, a portion of the proceeds from each Pink Afternoon Tea sets sold was donated to Indira Cancer Trust in support of their life-saving work.
