Thalahena in Negombo is one of the oldest destinations in Sri Lanka. Apart from the popular Negombo beach,  travellers were attracted to the lagoon too since the tourism boom in the seventies. Even after many decades, the village Thalahena is a quiet fishing hamlet sandwiched in between the beautiful Negombo lagoon and the golden stretch of beach, just ten minutes away from the hustle and bustle of the Negombo town. Wrapped by the skirts of the lagoon and the covers of the mangroves ‘Villa Hundira’ becomes a hidden paradise to anyone who loves  privacy, calmness and of course a range of good food. Overlooking the calm waters of the lagoon, the property has gone on to be ranked among the top three on TripAdvisor, for hotels in Negombo.

‘Our guests are invited to integrate with nature that outlines the tranquility and treats the senses to a new form of experience. The Villa is designed in such a way that it provides a high level of privacy in every corner of the property’ said Janaka P. Jayakody, the Operations Manager of the Villa Hundira. The rooms of the villa are built with plenty of nooks and corners for  privacy, and the land is naturally a triangular shape, giving an artistic taste to its architecture.  Started in 2013 as a private holiday bungalow by a former Swedish Motocross Champion Rolf Tibblin and his wife Indira, the Villa Hundira now boasts of having 15 well equipped rooms.

The fifteen rooms at ‘Villa Hundira’ are all architecturally designed and comprises of four Suites (Lagoon Suite, Water Suite and two Pool Suites), four super deluxe rooms, three deluxe rooms (inter-connecting)  for families and four standard rooms. All rooms are with attached bathrooms, modern amenities including tea/coffee making facility, cable TV, a wardrobe, balcony, open area with lagoon view and free wi-fi.
‘The Resort is designed to suit the varied needs of guest profiles such as honeymooners, leisure and family travellers or anyone seeking the utmost privacy, peace and tranquility. All rooms at the Villa and connecting two rooms offer a spacious sitting area and private dining area providing an edge over other forms of accommodation for private family vacations and for larger groups’ added Janaka.
‘Villa Hundira’ prioritises the food and beverage experience, offering different dining options. Each room or villa has a space for dining, that gives enough privacy to the guests. The main restaurant and bar are located on the ground floor close to the main pool offering a choice of indoor or outdoor dining options for a ‘real destination dining experience’. ‘Guests can also enjoy a fusion of cuisine including spicy Sri Lankan flavours. Dining outdoors is an option here, either soaking the sun or with candlelight and soft music accompanying curated meals after dark’ Janaka said.
‘For fusion  cuisine, our Executive Chef Ayesh and his team will ensure that guests experience the finest flavours of the Island and beyond. Italian, French, Thai and Sri Lankan style cuisines are popular with our guests.’
‘Apart from that, guests can go on excursions to Negombo. The ‘Villa Hundira’ is only a fifteen minute bike ride to Negombo’s old colonial Fort and main fish market- Lellama, which is a highlight of the old quarter’ Manager Janaka said.
At ‘Villa Hundira’, guests may enjoy fishing or rent a bicycle to explore the area. Village walk, visiting a traditional ‘pola’ and boat rides in the lagoon are popular activities of holiday makers. Other places of interest in and around Negombo include the famous ‘beach’, the Dutch Canal and the Muthurajawela Marsh.
‘We offer a true ‘Villa holiday’ to our discerning traveller. You are known by name and not by room number. It’s where you would be treated with true traditional Sri Lankan hospitality by our friendly staff’ Janaka added.
