President Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday expressed his willingness to work with all parties if he wins the September 21 Presidential election and extended an open invitation to Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) leader Sajith Premadasa, National People’s Power (NPP) leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake, and the newly elected Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) presidential candidate Namal Rajapaksa to form a national government.
He made this statement to a question raised by the Daily Mirror during the official meeting held with the media institutional heads in Colombo.
“I would like voters to decide which party brings what to the table. I will work with everyone and invite all to join me if I win, as we need unity to repay loans by 2028,” Wickremesinghe said.
“I would like voters to decide which party brings what to the table. I will work with everyone and invite all to join me if I win, as we need unity to repay loans by 2028,” Wickremesinghe said.
“Before I became president, I invited Sajith Premadasa and Anura Kumara Dissanayake to join me, but they declined and may now regret it. Next time, I will bring them into the government with no objections,” he added. Wickremesinghe further said that all parties must learn to work together and follow the Westminster system.
“We all must adhere to the rules. Secondly, we need a political system that supports basic fundamentals, even if we differ on details. This is what our country lacks and what all of you desire,” the President said.
