A FRIEND ACROSS ONLY ONCE IN A LIFETIME

It is almost four years since my dearest friend left us on September 4, 2018, leaving a void that cannot be filled. His voice still resonates in our ears and that infectious smile he always had still feels he is so near. I am now beginning to wonder whether the Almighty took him away from us.

KENNETH PERERA

He is sadly missed and fondly remembered on his 74th Birthday which falls on January 4, 2022. He was an exemplarily religious person. We were classmates and later he became my best man as well on my wedding day. No one could ask for a better friend than him. Kenneth was a unique person and a man all his own, full of love, compassion, loyalty and faith.  It is with pride I remember my friend, as I give thanks and praise to God for his life.

He was very compassionate towards others and always put their needs ahead of his own. He was interested in humanitarian service. He had been an active member of the Lions and was the President of Lions Club, Wattala.
I hope with all the happenings today, you are finding peace and solace in eternity elsewhere with the blessings of our Almighty God.

Kenneth had an abiding faith in God and devoted his entire life to be a living testimony. He was a great son to his parents, loving husband to his wife Priyani and a caring and a dear father to his son Milinda and a pillar of strength to all of us. Priyani was always behind him and took great care of him with lots of affection and empathy in the absence of his son Milinda who was in Australia for his studies when he was critically ill.

Kenneth was a simple man who led a very simple life and always well. He was very close to me and unfortunately, he is no more to share our fond memories. Kenneth was a true friend in every sense of the word. Although you parted early, I know we will be together in the Promised Land. Until that day, may the turf lie gently over you.

In my long association with him for more than 60 years, I cannot remember seeing in him common destructive impulses such as envy, hatred or greed.

Last but not the least, I say goodbye my dear friend, till we meet again.
May his soul rest in peace.
