‘Hemawalokana’-Hemasiri Liyanage retrospection

 

 

  • Liyanage is one of the pioneering playwrights and theatre directors whose plays explore the democratization and political transitions of the country
  • The films to be screened on this day at Tharangani Cinema are: Madhura Charika (2018) by Udayakantha Warnasuriya will be screened at 10.30 a.m, Sansaranyaye Dadayakkaraya (2019) by Prasanna Jayakodi will be screened at 1.30 p.m. and Chanda Kinnari (1998) by Asoka Handagama will be screened at 7 p.m. 

 

Award winning actor Hemasiri Liyanage will be felicitated for his long contribution to Sri Lankan theatre, television, and cinema. A film retrospection and a book launch are organised on December 16 at Tharangani Cinema at the National Film Corporation with the felicitation ceremony scheduled at 5 p.m.
The films to be screened on this day at Tharangani Cinema are: Madhura Charika (2018) by Udayakantha Warnasuriya will be screened at 10.30 a.m, Sansaranyaye Dadayakkaraya (2019) by Prasanna Jayakodi will be screened at 1.30 pm and Chanda Kinnari (1998) by Asoka Handagama will be screened at 7 p.m. 


Liyanage’s acting career began in 1983 with his debut film Niliyakata Pem Kalemi, and his latest appearance on the silver screen is Wedi Nowadina Lamai (Bullet Proof Children) by Indika Ferdinando which was released in 2022. These films can be watched free of charge.
The felicitation ceremony will be followed by the book launch at 5:00 p.m. at this venue.


This book contains three award-winning plays, namely, Nadagam Hewath Sudu Etha Awata Passe (1965), Chulodara Mahodara (1970), and Nariya Saha Keju (1975), which won the best theatre production award at the national theatre festival in 1975. These plays, written in the early 1960s and 1970s, were staged in the modern period of Sinhala-speaking theatre. Liyanage is one of the pioneering playwrights and theatre directors whose plays explore the democratization and political transitions of the country. This event is open to the public.
