It’s that time of year, when cyclists from around the world descend upon our land to participate in the highly acclaimed fundraising event known as Ride for Ceylon.

The 2025 ride will be the 9th annual campaign by R4C to raise awareness and funds for the medical infrastructure in Sri Lanka.

Co Founders, David Rasiah and Sriomal De Silva, are buoyant about their latest expansion venture.

Whilst in previous years, all funds raised were invested into the redevelopment of the Green Memorial Hospital, the team now intends to broaden their horizons by supporting other medical institutions in the country.

The ride which commences in Colombo on 12th February 2025 and culminates in Jaffna on 15th February, will see approximately 75 riders, traverse 460kms over 4 days.

Though gruelling, the trek has now attracted an international fan base. The international allure has resulted in a large contingent of cyclists from across the globe registering in the initiative.

The 2025 ride, also heralds the inclusion of Australian Gold Medal cyclist, Scott McGrory.

Enlisting as a new Brand Ambassador and as a Ride Captain, Scott provides a wealth of experience and insight to the team.

The winner of the Gold Medal in the Madison at the Sydney Olympics in 2000, the Silver at the 1996 UCI Track Cycling World Championships and a Bronze in the Team Pursuit at the 1988 Summer Olympics, Scott’s accomplishments are truly illustrious.

Furthermore, Scott will also be presiding as a commentator for Channel 9 during the Olympics in Paris in July.

Ride for Ceylon is certainly gaining momentum and prominence. As in previous years, R4C will be supported by the Sri Lanka Tourist Promotion Bureau, Asiri Hospitals and Sri Lankan Airlines, with the Sri Lanka Police providing the safety and security arrangements.

David and Sriomal are fully aware of the mammoth undertaking of the operation but are equally motivated by the camaraderie and tenacity of the riders. Not forgetting, the joy of witnessing the resulting benefits to the medical sector.
