He lives forever among us

Eng. Douglas Wegiriya, 61 was an extra ordinary engineer and former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Walkers Piling (Pvt) Ltd who passed away suddenly on March 18, 2022 in Canada.  

He had his primary education at Pinnawala Central College, Rambukkana and secondary education at the University of Peradeniya entering in1980 and graduating in 1984 with B.Sc. Civil Engineering. Douglas started his career as a civil engineer in Perinco Engineering Company Limited, Peradeniya. In April 1989 he joined the Ceylon Development Engineering Company and served in many projects. In October 1996 he joined CML Edwards Construction Limited as project manager and served in many projects.  He was the project Manager for many highway and bridge projects and served in many local and foreign funded projects in various capacities.  

He was very conscious of his duty, and he hides a soft heart with a fierce look from under bushy eye-brows. Douglas was absolutely loyal to his friends and colleagues, and among his sterling qualities, one that stood out was that of  “Muditha” – Vicarious joy an ability to be happy in the success of others.  

In later life he changed radically to become a teetotaller and adhered to it religiously.  

We take comfort in the fact that he led a productive and virtuous life, being a lifeline to his family and friends.  Our sympathy goes to his beloved wife Nadeesha, son Wickum, daughter Hasini and son-in-law Udayanga. May his sojourn in sansara be short and may be attain the supreme bliss of Nibbana!
