JR’s 114th birth anniversary remembered in Japan

114th birth anniversary event of the founding father and former Sri Lankan President Junius Richard (JR) Jayewardene, organized by the Japan-JR Jayewardene memorial committee, was held in Tokyo on September 20. 
This event, according to the committee President Rasitha Chandradasa,was held for its sixth consecutive year, with the cordial cooperation of Sri Lankan Community in Tokyo, Hachioji Lankaji Temple and non-government organizations.   
While COVID-19 restrictions made event participation limited to 20, enthusiastic participants organized an alms giving and “Ata Pirikara Puja” and Also held a small gathering in front of the JR Jayewardene statue at the Unruji Temple, Tokyo. 
Organizing committee also plans to organize similar events to celebrate the achievements of ex-President JR Jayewardene and to bridge the gap between Sri Lanka and Japan further.
