Josephian Carols ‘Salvador Mundi’ on Sunday

The much awaited Josephian Carols- organised and conducted by St. Cecilia’s Choir of St. Joseph’s College- will take place on December 3, 2023 at 6.15 pm at the vast Arena of St. Joseph’s College (Fr. Stanley Abeysakera Complex). The College brass band will first present the traditional Christmas Overture.


Thereafter the Carol Service titled ‘Salvador Mundi’ (Saviour of the World) will commence with the solemn entrance procession as the large choir harmoniously sings the hymn “Come Thou Long Expected Jesus”. According to a press release issued by the organizers of the event Most Rev. Dr. Anton Ranjith, the Auxiliary Bishop of Colombo will preside over as the chief celebrant of the event.


As to be expected the 72 member St. Cecilia’s choir of St. Joseph’s College (as the senior choir is known) will render magnificently chants, hymns, anthems and carols in several languages. The choir is composed of boy sopranos and altos possessing angelic voices blending well with the rich voices of the Senior tenor and bass singers.
They will present traditional carols, classical compositions and modern pieces with apt scripture readings and reflections appropriately interspersed. Joining them will be the primary school choir and the teachers’ choir as well as the renowned Old Joes Choir.


The Christmas message and the blessing will be delivered by Most Rev. Dr. Anton Ranjith and the vote of thanks will be made by Rev. Fr. Rnjith Andradi, the Rector of St. Joseph’s College.
