Kandy’s mobile library celebrates 20 years

It is twenty years since the Kandy Municipal Council inaugurated the Mobile Library catering for the 23 wards within the Municipality limits.  

The move to establish the mobile library was initiated by the then young Attorney at Law Ajith de Silva- a member of the Municipal Council- and the son of a Senior Member of the Council

Ajith was able to obtain a donation for this mobile service at the bus from the Rotary Club, if my memory serves right.  

March 29th marked the twentieth Anniversary of this service being established. There are many as 10,000 books circulating within the Kandy Municipal area. This was confirmed by Librarian P.S.Herath.  

The bus has served for twenty years without a replacement, but it now badly needs a replacement. Some homes are also visited if patrons are unable to walk to the point where the Mobile Library is parked.
