Legal Officers’ Association brings “A Ray of Hope” to children of Easter Sunday victims

Celebrating the 135th anniversary of the Attorney General’s Department, the Legal Officers’ Association has organised a fundraiser, “A Ray of Hope” to help the education of the children who lost their parents in the Easter Sunday Bomb attack.  

A Musical Extravaganza is being organized as a fund raiser for this charitable cause with the participation of reputed artistes on October 26 at 6.30 p.m. at the Shangri -La Hotel, Colombo. The funds raised at the event will be solely utilized to assist the education of destitute children who have lost either one or both parents in the Easter Sunday Bomb Attacks, numbering 50.
The Legal Officers’ Association membership comprising the officers attached to the Attorney General’s Department is an independent organisation registered under the Trade Union Ordinance. Started in 1977, the association was formed to maintain a good relationship among the members, members of the judiciary and other government officers and for the betterment and the welfare of the members.  
Established in the year 1884, the AG’s Department which has continuously played a pivotal role in the administration of justice in this country celebrates its 135th anniversary this year.   Under the guidance of the Attorney General Dappula de Livera, P.C, the Legal Officers’ Association unanimously decided to organize an event of fund raising to mark the 135th Anniversary of the Department
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest while the Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, Leader of the Opposition, Mahinda Rajapaksa, Ambassador of the Peoples’ Republic of China to Sri Lanka Cheng Xueyuan and High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka Taranjit Singh Sandhu, will grace this occasion as Guests of Honour.   
The Embassy of the Peoples’ Republic of China in Sri Lanka is the Platinum Sponsor of this fund raising event and savings books will be handed over to each of the children at this event for their educational purposes out of all the sponsorships and ticket sales.
