Lanka Alzheimer’s Foundation is organising “Memorable Steps 2020” a walk in which you can participate from wherever you are, between 1st and 21st of September. Physical and mental exercise is a sure way of preventing and delaying the onset of Alzheimer’s disease, a debilitating illness which can affect many of us.
In an international campaign to raise awareness of, and to challenge the stigma that surrounds dementia, the month of September is annually designated as World Alzheimer’s Month. Each year, Alzheimer’s associations from around the world unite to organise advocacy and information provision events, as well as Memory Walks and fund-raising events.

"Alzheimer’s disease, the commonest type of dementia, is an irreversible,  progressive brain disorder that slowly destroys memory and thinking  skills, eventually causing the inability to carry out even the simplest  of tasks"

Lanka Alzheimer’s Foundation (LAF) has been carrying out a sustained and continuous dementia awareness campaign in public spaces over the years, regularly, from July to September. The dementia awareness campaign included the Memory Walk which LAF conducted for 17 continuous years and an Alzheimer’s Run for the last 5 years, among a number of other activities. This year, due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation, LAF in collaboration with ayubo.life health app will be conducting Memorable Steps – a virtual walk for Alzheimer’s.
Alzheimer’s disease, the commonest type of dementia, is an irreversible, progressive brain disorder that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills, eventually causing the inability to carry out even the simplest of tasks.
Today, there are around 50 million people with dementia across the globe, and this number is predicted to triple by 2050. Sri Lanka has nearly 200,000 dementia patients and it is estimated that by 2050 this number will increase to around half a million.

"LAF invites everyone, young and old, to take part in the virtual walk.  All you have to do is simply download the ayubo.life health app and  register yourself"

Incorporated in 2001 as an approved charity registered with the Ministry of Social Services, the Lanka Alzheimer’s Foundation is the first and currently the only organisation dedicated to advocating and addressing the needs of those diagnosed with dementia and cognitive impairment, in Sri Lanka.
LAF is a member of the world body, Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) which represents 100 member associations from countries around the world. Its mission is to improve the quality of life of those with Alzheimer’s and related dementias, as well as enhance the well-being of their families and carers.
LAF invites everyone, young and old, to take part in the virtual walk. All you have to do is simply download the ayubo.life health app and register yourself. Join the Memorable Steps virtual walk and make every step count in the fight against Alzheimer’s.
