Public Screening of ‘The Count of Monte-Cristo’ in Colombo

Produced by the renowned French film company Pathé and released in June 2024, the film was considered as one of the most eagerly awaited releases this summer in France

As part of the French Cultural Season 2024, the Embassy of France in Sri Lanka and the Maldives, together with the network of Alliances Françaises in Sri Lanka and the Maldives, is organising the exclusive Sri Lankan premier screening of the widely acclaimed French movie The Count of Monte-Cristo (Le Comte de Monte-Cristo) on November 9 at 3:00 pm at PVR in One Galle Face. 
The duration of the movie is 178 minutes. It is recommended for children aged 10 and above. Sri Lankan audience is invited to come and experience the magic of French cinema!
According to a press statement issued by the organisers of the event, the film will be screened with English subtitles. Entrance is free and movie lovers will be seated on a first-come first-served basis.

Alexandre Dumas’s epic novel The Count of Monte-Cristo comes in a truly lavish adaptation with breath-taking backdrops and a mind-blowing pace. Its international premiere took place on May 22, 2024 as part of the out-of-competition programme at the Cannes festival, and it will be a premiere in Sri Lanka and an event not to be missed for cinema lovers.
In their movie, film directors Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de La Patellière offer us a breath-taking adaptation of nineteenth century prolific writer Alexandre Dumas’s 1844 epic novel of the same name, Le Comte de Monte-Cristo.  It tells the story of young Edmond Dantès, arrested on his wedding day for a crime he didn’t commit. After fourteen years of being incarcerated in the island prison of Château d’If, the man makes a daring escape. Immensely wealthy, the ‘Count of Monte-Cristo’ returns to France under an assumed name, seeking vengeance on those who betrayed him.
