119TH ANNUAL PRIZE GIVING OF ST.JOSEPH’S COLLEGE, COLOMBO
The 119th Annual Prize Giving of St.Joseph’s College, Colombo 10, was held at the Stanley Abeysekera Sports
The Rev. Dr. B. Stanley Abeysekera Memorial Prize for highest Z-score at the GCE Advanced Level was won by Saminda Methusha Fernando for 2020, K. Shaveen Avindra Silva for 2021 and S. Jerome De Mel for 2022.
Among the other prize winners L. Sachintha, S. Abhishek Thillekratne (2020), K. Shaveen Avindra Silva, (2021) and Deelaka Jerome De Mel (2022) won the prizes acquiring the Best Results in the Mathematics stream at the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination.
Methusha Fernando (2020), K. Ashen Sandesh Prabashwara Perera (2021) and S. Daniel De Silva (2022) won the prizes in the Bio Science stream at the G.C.E. Advanced Level. In the Commerce stream K. Thilanga Perera (2020), M. Ashen Dilantha Perera (2021) and Thisen Dewnaka Jayasena (2022) won the prizes.
At the London EDEXCEL international Advance Level for year 2020 D. P. Raveen Charles Wisidigama won the prize in Bio Science while Dineth RevanathWickremasinghe won the prize in Commerce Stream.
At the London EDEXCEL international Advance Level 2021 Joel Ryan Perera won in the Physical Science stream while Dulantha Thomas De Silva won the Commerce stream prize getting 3 As and above. Trishane Shanel Perera with 3As in Commerce and Nevin Antonio Motha getting 3 As in Physical Science also become prize winners.
For the year 2022 at London EDEXCEL exams Seth Xavier Fonseka won the prize in the Commerce stream getting 3 As while Bemal Ranruk Perera won a prize getting 2 As and above. Pium Julian Fernandopulle who got 3 As and above won the prize in Physical Science while A. Dimitri Aanjalendra Fernando won the price in the Commerce stream.

While congratulating all the Prize winners for their remarkable achievements, Rev. Fr. Ranjith Andradi, the Principal and Rector of St. Joseph’s College, Colombo 10, elaborated on the significance and importance of fostering Spiritual Intelligence - SI, underpinned by Catholic Spirituality among students in a world dominated by Artificial Intelligence-(AI).
During his speech, he briefed the audience on the nature of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cited some examples of AI in action. He also updated the audience with the kind of challenges we can expect with proliferation of the use of AI across all spheres of life. Furthermore, he also made a meaningful insight to Spiritual Intelligence and the role of Education on Spiritual Intelligence.
Rev. Fr. Andradi also thanked Rt. Rev. Dr. Anton Ranjith, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Colombo, for gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest and extended his profound gratitude to His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, the Proprietor of the School for his unwavering affection and support. He also expressed his appreciation to Rev. Fr. Gemunu Dias Jayawardene, National Archdiocesan Director of Education and the General Manager of Catholic Private Schools of the Western Province, for his sustained support.
He also thanked the Colombo Zonal Director and the Officials of the Education Department, for being a source of strength at all times.He also appreciated Rev. Fr. Vice Rector, Rev. Fathers, Rev. Sisters, Deputy Principals, Tutorial Staff and the Clerical Staff for their loyalty and generous support.
