Rodney returns to cinema with ‘Sudu Appachchi’

“Sudu Appachchi”(Dear Granddad), the newest film directed by veteran journalist, editor, writer and teledrama and film director Rodney Widanapathirana is now being screened in selected theatres around the country. 
Playing the cameo role, yesteryear theatre and teledrama star Gamini Samarakone makes a comeback as ‘Sudu Appachchi’ a 70-year-old elderly man who lives in a rural village. Others in the stellar cast are Ishara Wickramasinghe, Rupa Pathirana, Stanley Krishnarathna, Ranjith Ranasinghe, Kelum Dharmadasa and Child artistes Avishka Wijerathna, Arosha Wijerathna and Nishedha Jayasinghe.
Rodney’s third cinema direction is based on a mysterious and mythical story in a remote village in Sri Lanka. The film represented Sri Lanka at the Vidarbha International Film Festival in Nagpur-India.


Set in a village far away from the city, the peaceful and harmonious life in the village is shattered by the entrance of a drama teacher to the school from the city. At the same time, villagers come across a mysterious man who they think is a ghost. Since the arrival of the graduate drama teacher and the mysterious man, the villagers think that the teacher has a connection with the ‘ghost’ who wandered around the city. Because of this the teacher encounters a host of problems and is even being beaten.
The film RW Productions is screened at PVR, Gold Cinema (Majestic City), Regal, Bandarawela Regal Katubedda, Regal Dematagoda and Regal Gampaha. 
Behind the screen cinematographed by Mahendra Senaratne, dialogue and assistant direction is by Marlon Widanapathirana and the film is edited by Pasath Samaraweera. To the music direction of Visharadha Manoj Peiris voice renditions for the playback songs are by Sadew Santhula, Tharudini Methsaura, Thenuka Alagiyawanna and Kithmini Kulathunga.
