Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association (SLGGA), counting 103 years in existence, is the oldest and largest voluntary movement for girls in the country with over 100,000 members island-wide. SLGGA affords the opportunity for girls to develop physical fitness and health, intelligence and character, skills and handicrafts, fellowship and service.
The SLGGA successfully concluded its 63rd Annual General Meeting on December 20, 2020. The AGM was held virtually on an online platform, taking into consideration the prevailing situation in the country. Dr. Shanthi Wilson, the President of SLGGA presided over the meeting with the attendance of approximately 100 members on invitation.
The outgoing Chief Commissioner Ms.Visakha Tillekeratne leaves with a glad heart as the Association reached the milestone of 100,000 members and was able to enter the privilege club of “Largest Girls - only Member Organizations” within World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). She further stressed that though the quantity has increased maintaining the quality was her main objective which was never compromised.
She also conveyed her gratitude to all the volunteers for their support extended during her tenure.
SLGGA bids farewell to the outgoing Chief commissioner Ms Visakha Tillekeratne, Assistant Chief commissioner Ms. Srima Perera, Hon. Treasurer Ms.Prarthana Liyanage, Hon. Assistant Treasurer Ms Melani Madushini and the outgoing Sector and Provincial commissioners.
The SLGGA warmly welcomes the new executive committee which will be spearheaded by Chief Commissioner Ms. Sulari Jayawardena. Her core team consist of, Deputy Chief Commissioner Dr Kushantha Herat, Assistant Chief Commissioner Ms Nirmalee William, Hon. Treasurer Ms. Tamara Wijesinghe and Hon. Assistant Treasurer Ms. Narmada Santiago.
The incoming Sector and Provincial commissioners were also announced and received a warm welcome.
